Get a Taste of Local Craft Beer by Touring Canberra’s Best Breweries

Canberra’s craft beer scene is buzzing. Home to a slew of top-notch independent breweries, the city has made a name for itself both nationally and internationally.

Whether you’re a beer buff that wants to immerse yourself in the art of brewing, or just simply enjoy drinking it, spending a day touring Canberra’s best breweries and taprooms is an unbeatable experience. Let’s look at which ones throw open their doors to visitors.

BentSpoke Brewing Co., Braddon

For nearly a decade, BentSpoke have led the charge in transforming Australia’s rep for impeccable homegrown beers. Founded by champion Australian brewer Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain, BentSpoke’s brew pub in Braddon is the nucleus of their operation.

From IPAs and Belgian-style white ales to ciders, the brew pub always has 18 styles of its beers on tap, straight from the brewery tanks. Book a 1 hour 45-minute tasting session and get your fill. A must-swig is their Crankshaft American IPA, voted Australia’s favourite craft beer of 2021.

Zierholz, Fyshwick

As its name suggests, Zierholz crafts German inspired beers, but with a unique Aussie twist. The Fyshwick-based brewery is where it all began in in 2005, and it welcomes visitors for group tours.

Discover Zierholz’s masterful brewing process and get to sip its premium brews. Learn founder Christoph Zierholz’s story and how he started brewing a south German-style wheat beer for his dad. Be sure to sample Zierholz’s signature Weizen beer, and the deliciously nutty and malty Amber Ale.

Capital Brewing Co., Fyshwick

The eruption of Capital Brewing Co.’s success means the brewery now has a handful of taprooms across the ACT, but it’s self-confessed ‘spiritual homeland’ is the Fyshwick one.

With a funky garden to hang out in and a game-filled kids’ cubby house, it’s much more than just a basic brewery. Capital Brewing Co. is about embodying an easy-breezy, hop-happy lifestyle as much as it is about creating great craft ales. But they do the latter in spades. With a core range that includes the classic Coast Ale and Rock Hopper West Coast IPA, Capital always has an ever-changing line-up of special and seasonal releases. You can be sure of a new experience each time you visit the Fyshwick taproom.
