Dine on Just-Caught Seafood at Silica, Kiama

Famed for its impressive blowhole, the charming coastal town of Kiama has much more to offer than just its dramatic clifftop water display. With a thriving culinary scene, the town presents ample opportunities to dine on locally sourced produce.

A true destination dining experience, Silica Restaurant serves up some of the best seafood you’ll taste in NSW. Nestled on Kiama’s picturesque Surf Beach, you’ll be dazzled with ocean views as enchanting as the food. Just under three hours’ drive from Canberra, when visiting Kiama for a weekend, be sure to call in at Silica for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Seafood that inspires the senses

Conceived by chefs and friends, Luke Basic and John Cappellin, Silica was the result of their dream to both own a restaurant. What they don’t source from the sea, they grow from local farms and pick daily what they prepare in the restaurant.

Every dish is created with its ingredients as the star. Take the chargrilled octopus, complemented with sweet capsicum jam, prawn oil and grilled shallot. Then there’s the roasted king prawns; giant hunks of tender pink prawn meat, coated in bisque butter and finished with finger lime, samphire and saltbush.

The two-storey Silica offers a different dining experience on each level. Upstairs is more relaxed, perfect for a casual lunch or easy-breezy dinner, while downstairs is a more formal affair. Of course, whichever floor you’re dining on, you’re blessed with those incredible ocean vistas.

Try takeaway by the Blowhole

Perhaps you fancy fish and chips to-go while you eat on the beach or picnic bench overlooking the blowhole? Silica offers a takeaway service so you can order your favourite dish and head to your desired spot. This is takeaway at its finest though, think; potato scallops, tempura prawns and of course, classic battered fish and chips.

Silica’s to-go service also sells fully-loaded toasted sandwiches, stuffed with tempting fillings like roast pumpkin and eggplant or chicken, avocado and caramelised onion.

What else is there to do around Silica in Kiama?

Silica Restaurant is a twelve-minute stroll to Blow Hole Point where you’ll find the giant gushing geyser. From the restaurant’s Surf Beach location, you can pick up a trail that will lead to the neighbouring Kendalls Beach, or head northwards into town and in five minutes you’ll be in the main centre.

Open every third Sunday of each month, Kiama Seaside Markets is an amazing showcase of locally-grown produce, homeware, art and pretty souvenirs. Seize the opportunity to pick yourself a little piece of Kiama to take home.
