When you’re after a head-turning, high-performance car that also does its bit for sustainability, there are some seriously smart luxury EVs in showrooms right now. Boasting stylish looks, top ranges and plenty of fancy features, these are the crème da la crème of electric vehicles, from sporty sedans to family-friendly SUVs.

Porsche Taycan

The first EV from the iconic German marque, the Porsche Taycan is a refined masterpiece. Featuring an upgraded 800-volt electrical system and a recalibrated adaptive air suspension system, this sleek sedan has epic dual-motor power that, when paired with a 93.4kWh battery, the Taycan GTS delivers scintillating acceleration, reaching 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds.

From graceful cruising to dynamic cornering, it delivers an incredible driving experience thanks to aggressive adaptive air springs. Despite its track prowess, the Taycan maintains an impressive range of about 485km on a single charge.

Mercedes-AMG EQS 53

A performance-oriented take on the electric Mercedes EQS, the EQS 53 resembles a hyper-aerodynamic fastback. Powered by synchronous electric motors, this ultra-smart sedan delivers a remarkable 484kW of power and 950Nm of torque, with an optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package elevating this to 560kW and 1020Nm during Race Start mode.

Despite its weight, the EQS 53 accelerates rapidly and introduces a new sound experience to electric driving. The elegant interior is a showcase of modern tech, featuring a gigantic MBUX Hyperscreen spanning 1.4 meters and offering various touch-sensitive displays.

BMW iX3

Coming in with a drive-away price of under six figures, the BMW iX3 leans toward the ‘affordable’ end of the luxury EV market. It provides that familiar X3 experience, yet with the benefits of electric driving if you’re craving an emission-free BMW SUV.

Performance-wise, the iX3 features a 73.8kWh battery pack with a WLTP range of 460km. Sporting a 210kW/400Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels, it supports rapid charging up to 150kW. It’s packed with all the high-end specs you can dream of, including a stitched dash top, partial leather seats, Harman Kardon sound system, tri-zone climate control and a panoramic roof as standard.

Audi e-tron GT

Closely related to the Porsche Taycan, the Audi e-Tron GT distinguishes itself as a grand tourer, prioritising ride comfort and silky handling over high-performance dynamics. The sedan is available in two variants: the base E-Tron GT and the more powerful RS E-Tron GT. Like the Taycan, the base e-Tron GT boasts twin electric motors producing 350kW/630Nm, with a boost mode reaching 350kW/640Nm for 2.5-second bursts.

The e-Tron GT’s 800-volt architecture allows for ultra-fast charging up to 270kW, providing a 5-80% charge in a super-fast 22.5 minutes. With its sleek, sculpted profile and low, wide stance, the E-Tron matches the Taycan in the style stakes, and comes in at a more pleasing price, too.

Genesis Electrified G80

In less than a decade, luxe Korean automotive brand Genesis has firmly established itself among its heritage European peers. Based on a modified combustion engine, the Genesis Electrified G80 is a seductive saloon with lavish attention to detail. Featuring forged wood inlays, a 14.5-inch infotainment screen and Nappa Leather seats.

However, the eG80 proves looks aren’t everything. A dual-motor drive system delivers 272kW and 700Nm total system output, and a large 87.2kWh battery, providing an impressive 500 km range. The 800-volt charging architecture gets you to an 80% charge in a rapid 22 minutes using 350kW DC fast charging.
