Abundant with golden fields and picturesque villages, the Riverina heartlands are a joy to behold. Taking in its most attractive ports of call, the Canola Trail is a triangular route that connects Temora, Junee and Coolamon, and is the best way to explore this mesmerising historic and agricultural region. Here’s what you can see and do along the way.

What is the Canola Trail?

Named after the sunny yellow canola crop that’s harvested in the region, the Canola Trail is a relaxing route that allows you to explore Riverina’s many delights at your own pace. Whether you want to take a leisurely day trip or make a weekend of it, the Canola Trail is brimming with alluring places and activities for a blissed-out road trip in the countryside.

To drive past the gorgeous golden canola fields at their peak, the best time to embark on the trip is August and September. At any time of year, you can still connect with Riverina’s food & drink, culture & heritage and natural landscapes.

Start your Canola Trail experience in the beautiful pioneer-style town of Temora. It’s home to the Temora Aviation Museum which boasts one of the world’s best collections of flying historic aircraft. From Temora, head south along the pretty Goldfields Way to Junee. Rich with old-world architectural splendour, Junee has the brilliant Broadway Museum and Junee Roundhouse Railway Museum to explore, along with the eerie Monte Cristo Homestead – allegedly Australia’s most haunted house!

Next stop is the immaculately preserved Coolamon. Just walking its main street immerses you in the past. To stretch your legs further, its neighbouring Kindra State Forest has an abundance of walking tracks and mountain bike trails.
