Vistas don’t get more majestic than at Evans Lookout. An epic vantage point in the heart of Blue Mountains National Park, Evans Lookout is the place where Instagram dreams are made. Offering panoramic views of the Grose Valley and beyond, Evans Lookout is a must-visit destination for a harmonious blend of adventure and tranquillity.

Where is Evans Lookout?

Nestled in the Blackheath area of Blue Mountains National Park, you can easily reach Evans Lookout via Evans Lookout Road, east of Blackheath village. Named after George Evans, the colonial surveyor who played a pivotal role in exploring the Blue Mountains in the early 19th-century, today, it serves as a gateway to the wonders of the Grose Valley.

What can I experience at Evans Lookout?

The sheer scale of the views invites contemplation and offers a wonderful connection to the untamed beauty of the wilderness. As you cast your eye over the vast expanse of the Grose Valley, you’ll witness a landscape adorned with towering sandstone cliffs, verdant vegetation and the gentle meandering course of the Grose River below.

Not only is Evans Lookout a visual feast, it’s also a hub for every type of outdoor enthusiast. Consider making the lookout a starting point for several scenic hikes – each promising a unique perspective of the surrounding landscapes.

Probably the most iconic bushwalk, the Grand Canyon Track, begins here, leading you through ancient rainforests, past waterfalls and along the cliff edges, providing an immersive experience with the natural wonders of the Blue Mountains.

What else can I see and do around Blue Mountains National Park?

In the vicinity of Evans Lookout, you’ll find equally awesome views of the legendary Three Sisters rock formation at Echo Point Lookout. For two-wheeled escapades, the nearby Mount Hay Road is a 32km return cycle route that offers a fantastic ride over the sandstone plateau through canopies of scribbly gums and wildflowers.

If you’re considering a long weekend in the beautiful Blue Mountains, Acacia Flat campground is not far from Evans Lookout and is set right in a blue gum forest. It’s ultra-scenic yet super remote – be warned, there’s a 3 to 4-hour walk to reach the campground.

The chic village of Blackheath itself is absolutely worth a call-in. Browse over 50 vendors at the splendid Victory Theatre Antique Centre and enjoy lunch at the heritage-listed Gardners Inn. If you’re visiting in spring or autumn, wander through the lush grounds of the Campbell Rhododendron Gardens, where vibrant blooms create a colourful display.
