Feed a Giraffe from your Balcony Staying at Jamala Wildlife Lodge

Like an opulent African safari retreat, Jamala Wildlife Lodge gives you a front row seat for an extraordinary wildlife experience. Located inside the National Zoo & Aquarium, just ten minutes’ drive from Canberra city centre, this luxurious destination aligns lavish accommodation with lions, tigers, and bears – oh my! And all directly outside your window.

Wake up to wildlife

Each of Jamala Wildlife Lodge’s residences is conceived to connect you directly to nature. The Giraffe Treehouses open out onto a private enclosure where you can hand-feed Skye, the resident giraffe. Meanwhile, Jungle Bungalow suites with ceiling-height windows face directly upon prides of lions, cheetahs, or Malayan sun bears frolicking. You can even watch animals prowl as you take a bath!

The grand uShaka Lodge is sumptuously appointed, with animal print soft furnishings, tribal art and fine carvings lending it a distinctly African vibe. A showstopping shark tank and resident monkeys that hang out on the terrace make uShaka Lodge an unforgettable stay.

Have hands-on animal encounters

Do you love the thought of stroking a rhino’s textured skin? Perhaps you’ve always wanted to feed a majestic white lion? Or maybe meeting a cheetah rocks your world? When staying at Jamala Wildlife Lodge you have access to amazing animal encounters, at a discounted rate. Under the guidance of expert keepers, you can get up close and personal with everything from tigers to tree kangaroos.

For a deeper immersion into the inside the National Zoo & Aquarium’s vast array of wildlife, each guest has optional guided or self-guided tours and a morning safari at their disposal.

Dine in the company of white lions

If witnessing wildlife from your window wasn’t enough, Jamala Wildlife Lodge’s underground Rainforest Cave restaurant literally adjoins a lion enclosure. Separated by just a few centimetres of glass, you’ll dine as you watch majestic white lions’ pad by in curiosity.

Dining at the Rainforest Cave is a refined affair. To start, you’ll savour cocktails on the terrace overlooking the hyena enclosure. Then you’ll enjoy an exquisite, four-course gourmet dinner complemented by fine wines and Champagne. If you’re craving some alone-time, why not have the kids whisked off on a guided tour of the aquarium as you indulge in your main course?
