What is Horse Head Rock?

Estimated to be over 500 million years old, Horse Head Rock is the making of years upon years of seawater slowly forming its distinctive equine shape. Located on the crest of Camel Rock Beach, you can witness it from a dedicated viewing platform, accessed along a 1.5km track between Camel Rock and Murunna Point.

You’ll be met with striking views as you navigate the trail over grassy clifftops and past the Yuin cultural heritage sign. If you want to see Horse Head Rock up close in all its mighty glory, you can only access Camel Rock Beach at low tide. However, you choose to see Horse Head Rock, don’t forget your camera!

What else is there to see and do around Horse Head Rock?

Horse Head Rock borders the beautiful Wallaga Lake. A watersports haven, Wallaga Lake’s tranquil waters and nature-diverse surroundings make it a perfect place to pitch up at.

If you love fishing, try casting your line to catch a Bream or Salmon. For epic views, take to the placid waters on a boat or water ski. With lakeside camping available, why not throw your tent in the back of your EV, or tow your caravan and make a weekend of it if your EV is certified for towing.

Call in at Bermagui

A little way down the coastline from Horse Head Rock, the gorgeous seaside town of Bermagui boasts a magnificent harbour and a vibrant food and drink scene.

A small crescent of sand forms Bermagui’s alluring beach, which leads up to the pretty town itself. Enjoy an al fresco lunch of caught-that-day fish and chips in the fresh coastal air before checking out the local Growers and Makers Market. Bermagui is also famed for its mesmerising Blue Pool; a vast rock pool fed by the ocean which can be swam in.
